Scotty Slaughter - 1937-2002

Scotty was a family friend for over 40 yrs. My dad, Burton McNeely met Scotty while shooting for LIFE and Nat'l Geographic where he documented Scotty's "Bang-stick" Scotty used on sharks when the sharks would threaten him while either diving for the Navy or for pleasure.

Scotty was family to me, and my life is definitely better for knowing him.

I have attached a poem that has helped me through times like this in the past. This is a poem that Burton's mom found in the early 1910s. It is anonymous which after reading it, is only appropriate.

It truly represents Scotty.

Please feel free to pass this poem to anyone who it will help.
